I love to learn and spend far too much time thinking about what I want to learn next. Language apps are definitely the thing at the moment! Oh, and Grammarly on Google Docs…how great is that?
I have been writing for many years (now you are imagining an old woman with wrinkles, false teeth and a walker, don’t lie!), and have always had a love of great literature (and some not so great, it’s all personal).
So, where do I start?
Fanfic. It always starts with fanfic (well, maybe not, but it does this time, for the sake of this).
I caught the fanfic bug before I really knew what fanfic was; so desperate to know what happened next to Sorry Carlisle and Laura Chant that I wrote my own ‘3 years later’ story. Of course, when I was 11 the internet was but a glimmer in the eye of Tim Berners-Lee (well, not so much a glimmer, but definitely not public access), this meant that there was nowhere to publish what I wrote, so I just typed it up on the manual typewriter, or wrote it down in my messy handwriting in the back of a schoolbook and kept it for my own amusement.
Of course, fanfic became a massive soul-sucking (in my case) thing as the internet grew and years later, after I discovered the wonder of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Roswell High I found myself hooked!
Out the window went all the original stuff I had been working on – there was quite a lot of it at one point – and in came the stories of Willow and Spike and Michael and Maria.
It’s been over 20 years since that first fic (scary thought) and I have seen trends come and go. I have seen popular shows fade from the public eye only to remain in the hearts of loyal fans everywhere. I have also moved fandoms probably 10 times (I am still searching for somewhere I feel as comfortable as I did when I was writing for the Roswell community though).
So, who am I?
I am a woman living in the UK (I love the South Coast, the early morning sun and the smell of the salt in the air). I work as an editor, I also freelance as a content creator and proofreader (you need someone, just contact me). I have a cat (you will see quite a lot of her on here, she’s my pride and joy; a hyperactive fluffball who thinks 3am means playtime).
I love to write, enjoy books (this last 12 months – or so – I have been catching up on my reading quite a lot) and have dreamed forever about getting properly published (book launch, publicity tour, movies, the lot).
I am a perpetual dieter, who likes the idea of food far more than she likes the actual food – which can actually cause more problems than it solves – strangely!
I really enjoy watching procedurals like NCIS and Elementary, and comedies such as The Good Place and Speechless; I prefer my TV to be a little bit more lighthearted and entertaining, though I won’t say no to a good Mary Beard documentary about ancient Rome, or programmes about how people lived across the centuries.
I like to travel, though I haven’t had the opportunity as much in recent years. I worked out, not that long ago, that I have visited more places in the US than I have in my own country (pretty shocking), but it’s actually easier (and takes less time) to fly to New York than travel to Scotland by train!
From time to time I dip my toe back in the online dating pool, but it’s pretty murky and I am fed up with pulling my toe up to find it covered in algae or seaweed. You’ll read about my unusual experiences occasionally. As with anything, if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right. Which is why I rarely dare any more.
I have also decided to start a podcast in which I will talk about everything I always talk about on here and, possibly, more.
At the moment, weight is the thing that I am figuring out, that and trying to get and stay healthy. I will get there. Follow me on my journey through life…
And, if you identify with anything I write here, let me know. I love to hear from readers and people who are going through the same things as me. It’s great to know you aren’t alone.
